Your skin is important for many reasons. It protects everything inside your body by acting as a barrier against germs. Your skin can influence the quality of your life, which is why you should exert time and effort in taking care of it. The healthier your skin is, the more you can do in life.

Here are simple yet effective tips to get healthy and glowing skin:

  • Exfoliate Regularly

Your skin is exposed to harmful pollutants every day and merely washing it with soap and water won’t do the trick. In fact, using conventional soaps to wash your skin can only do more harm than good as these products can strip natural oils and damage the skin barrier.

Washing your face with soap and water won’t suffice as a skincare routine. Instead, you should regularly exfoliate with the right products to unclog pores, remove dead skin, and prevent acne. Exfoliating with a toner also evens skin tone, boosts blood circulation, and helps other skincare products penetrate deeper.

You can start by exfoliating your skin two to three times per week. If your skin doesn’t become irritated or too dry, you can exfoliate up to four times every week.

  • Prioritize Sleep

Regardless of how busy you are, you should never deprive yourself of sleep. Skimping on a good night’s rest adversely affects your skin by raising your cortisol levels. This hormone triggers inflammation and breaks down proteins that keep your skin glowing and smooth.

Not getting enough sleep will also cause a decrease in the blood flow in the skin, making your skin look dull. Sleep deprivation can also lead to hanging eyelids, darker under-eye circles, more fine lines and wrinkles, and paler skin.

Prioritize sleeping at least seven hours every night to improve or maintain your skin health. To help you sleep faster and longer, create a relaxing bedroom by incorporating soft texture, adding a few plants, and investing in a high-quality bed. Make sure to remove any electronics from your bedroom to avoid any distractions, as well.

  • Wear Sunscreen

One of the biggest misconceptions people have about skincare is that you should only apply sunscreen when going out. This isn’t true because the sun’s ultraviolet or UV rays can pass through glass windows and harm your skin.

Another way to achieve healthy and glowing skin is to apply sunscreen regularly. Sunscreen may reduce your risk of sunburn as the product effectively absorbs, scatters, and reflects UV radiation. Wearing sunscreen every day may also prevent skin discoloration, reduce redness and inflammation, and prevent signs of skin aging,

When choosing a sunscreen, check the label and make sure that it has at least 30 Sun Protection Factor or SPF. The higher the SPF of the sunscreen is, the more protection it can provide against sunburn and UV damage.

  • Drink More Water

It’s common knowledge that humans need to drink water to function properly but do you know that water also impacts your skin health? If you want to achieve healthy skin, you should strive to

drink at least three liters (for women) or four liters (for men) of water every day.

Drinking water can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and prevents your skin from sagging as it improves elasticity. This is important because as you grow older, you’ll naturally lose elasticity in

your skin. By drinking more water every day, you can combat the effects of skin aging and keep your skin looking young.

If you often fail to meet your body’s daily water needs, add slices of fruits to your water for additional flavors. This is an inexpensive and healthy way of improving the taste of water, making it easier for you to drink more during the day.

  • Eat Right To Nourish Your Skin

Your diet affects all of your organs, including your skin. Excess sugar and highly processed foods in the diet can encourage the degradation of elastin and collagen. This triggers your skin to lose firmness and elasticity and the onslaught of fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging.

Achieving healthy and glowing skin is a long process, and you can start by changing your diet. Here are three foods that can bring countless benefits to your skin:

  • Fatty fish: Fatty fish, such as herring, mackerel, and salmon, can regulate the production of new skin cells. These foods also contain omega-3 fatty acids that may keep your skin moisturized.
  • Avocados: This fruit is packed with healthy fats that may soothe skin conditions, prevent skin damage, and minimize acne breakouts. Avocados may also prevent dry skin.
  • Tomatoes: Because of their high vitamin C content, tomatoes may reduce the risk of sunburns, promote wound healing, and stimulate collagen production.
